Being gay- a style statement or part of nature...????

* This post may contain adult material, please don't read if you are underage or may be offended *

Today's Kolkata edition of ToI carried a report about a sex killing by a Saudi prince Prince Saud Abdulazaziz. His male aide, Bandar Abdullah Abdulaziz,  is suspected to have been killed by him during a sex session. This is not a very big deal, considering the extravaganza and clout the Saudi royal classes enjoy, but it points to an intriguing question. Is the prince really gay or bisexual?? Or does this points to an exploitation of the hapless aide by the all powerful royal? Sex is an act of intense passion, be it with someone of the opposite sex or of the same sex, and the passion is supposed to stem from love. But there are multiple videos showing the dead being thrashed by the prince in public. That proves one fact at least: the relation wasn't one of mutual love.
One trend can be observed if followed carefully: a decade or so ago, when same-sex relations didn't have social sanction, people who were into same-sex relations was substantially lower than it is today. What caused this rise in numbers? Nowadays, somehow its an accepted fact that if you are someone from the world of showbiz, middle-aged, male and single then you are gay- the case in point being most of our fashion designers. Why is it that so many fashion designers are gay? The same case applies to model coordinators. We have to accept one primary fact-that being straight is the norm in society. And what is surprising is that though there are so many who prefer to go against the norm, the vast majority of them come from the world of limelight. This might point to a trend where being homosexual is not a part of a person's nature but of nurture, or worse still, a style statement. Because that's what its being reduced to nowadays. There are stories about same-sex couples who have spent years together happily, but they are quite rare. In most of the cases it can be followed that while one of the partners is from the ultra-rich, ultra-powerful higher class, the other is from a lower stratum of the society, mostly a wannabe. This in most cases points to a story of exploitation. The relation may be consensual but the causes for the consent need to be looked into. Because a person might even give his consent to being exploited for lack of alternatives. This becomes more tragic when one considers the fact that while a woman may go  and file a case for rape and molestation against a man, the same can't be done by a man. That is a sorry state where one person gets exploited repeatedly without any hope or help. So before we go for legalizing everything about being gay and promoting the rights of the community we should ensure that a proper system is in place to prevent exploitation and allow for proper redress of the exploited because in most cases like the one mentioned above they can't even raise their voice and by the time the world knows about it it is too late for anything.
