What we want from life..!!!

All of us have so many different dreams, different aspirations, different likes and dislikes but one common complaint- that life isn't fair to us.. we never get what we deserve and never deserve what we get. Life always hands out a raw deal to us. The question to ask is: why? Why is life so unfair? Why do we always get a raw deal? Why is it that even after trying our best, we fail? The answer, perhaps, is too simple for us to comprehend. The ancient teachers and rishis at gurukuls taught their student one basic principle: "Sayyam khalu jivanam"- patience is the biggest virtue in life. In today's fast-paced world, nobody is prepared to wait, we want everything to happen as we want it and when we want it, but we neglect one basic fact-nature frames the laws for our survival not for our happiness. So its up to us whether we want more and more and more of what we think we deserve from life or whether we want to fulfill our basic need- the need to be happy. Happiness can only come with satisfaction. When we stop caring about what injustice the world is doing to us, and instead focus on what we can give back to nature for all that we have received from it.
Being happy is not difficult as most of us assume- one doesn't need a 6-figure salary or a BMW or a big apartment to be happy. A small home with a contented heart is enough. It may sound cliched, but just think of the smile on your mother's face when you return home after a long day, or the hug from your girlfriend when you give her a surprise on the anniversary of your first date. Women perhaps ask less from life than men to be happy- most women only want a caring husband, a loving family and a happy child at the end of the day and that probably is also the reason the women are happier. Even medics agree...the stats say that men are twice as likely to suffer from depression, 5 times as likely to have a heart attack at the age of 40 and 2.5 times as likely to suffer a total nervous breakdown as compared to women. All this points to the fallacy of what we are striving for, and maybe its time for us to realize that at the end of the day its better to have a loving family, a few good friends and a cozy 'home' to go to rather than a big pay-packet with nobody but ourselves to spend it on, a big car but no one to take for a long drive and a big luxury apartment, which can be a house but never a home..!!!
